Le Petit Chef – Manila

Le Petit Chef is an animation dinner held in several countries across the globe. In the Philippines, you can find it at the Peak Grill, which is Grand Hyatt Manila’s top floor restaurant. During the time I went, the theme was Marco Polo, so the menu was composed of dishes from different countries that the explorer visited. There were two adult menus to choose from, and a children’s menu. First you have to make a reservation at https://lepetitchef.com/grand-hyatt-manila. The restaurant is very small so you might need to make a booking way in advance especially if you are a big group, or if you’re going on a weekend. There is a 6pm and 8:30pm seating.

this is about half the dining area, so as you can see, it is very small. it was a nice place with comfortable seats

the show starts with Le Petit Chef introducing himself in a story book format
before each dish, there is an animation introduction

Here is the adult menu I chose in order:

FRANCE: CHAUDIÈRE DE POISSON fresh seafood soup, clams, mussels, salmon

This soup was very tasty but not overly heavy. It was very good.

ARABIA: CHARGRILLED AUSTRALIAN GRASS FED BEEF TENDERLOIN ras el hanout, dukkah, thyme, garlic lebneh, homemade hummus, fattoush salad, sumac, pide bread

I loved the grand, authentic presentation of this dish. Considering I had my beef well done and it was grass fed, it was really good and tender, and the sauce and accompaniments went perfectly with it. The only thing I didn’t find so great was the bread. It wasn’t bad, but it was nothing special.

INDIA: BUTTER CHICKEN tomato gravy, saffron rice, samosa chaat, tamarind and mint chutney, papadum

I really liked this dish as well. Even the rice was good.

NEPAL: SORBET lemon, lime, mint

This tasted like a typical sorbet, but the presentation was anything but typical! It was well made, with the right balance of flavors.

CHINA: BRAISED SEABASS ginger, garlic, black bean sauce

This too was good and a typical Chinese black bean sauce taste. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender, good quality fish on the inside.

We had some celebrants in our table and so they took a “detour” to make a cake. I liked that the animation for the cake and dessert part was on the plate, it looked a lot more realistic.

Making the cake/dessert:

FRANCE: YOGHURT HONEY PANNA COTTA mango, lime, tonka bean, shortbread biscuit

I really loved the dessert and thought it was one of the best panna cottas I have ever tried. It was creamy and tasty, but not too sweet. The toppings also went really well with the panna cotta.

after the dinner, you can step out for a souvenir shot
The Grand Hyatt Manila is the tallest building in the Philippines, so you get great views from the Peak Grill’s deck

Overall, I really enjoyed this dinner! The animation was entertaining and amusing, the food was great and nicely presented, and they had good service. There was also a hostess who presented each dish and had a costume change for each one. And of course all this comes with a hefty price tag! The adult menus were P7,500 & P6,600 per person, while the kids menu was P4,000. Though in my opinion, well worth it! I wouldn’t mind going back when the theme has changed.
